Job Overview:
ShareChat is looking for an Associate Director to join our Public Policy team.Your role will involve working closely with a number of other teams at ShareChat including our Community, Product, and Content teams while reporting to the Senior Director of Public Policy. Your role will also be required to manage high-profile content escalations. At times, you may be expected to make difficult decisions under pressure. You will be responsible for understanding ShareChat’s policies and priorities and communicating this both internally and externally to various stakeholders. You should be passionate about the platform and our aim to get the next billion users to enjoy the benefits of the Internet in a language comfortable to them. Given the demands of content-related escalations, the candidate will sometimes be expected to work over weekends.


  • Advocate, internally and external on policy issues that would ensure ShareChat is at the forefront of the social media space in India
  • Identify, monitor and analyse relevant policy trends and issues of importance to the company
  • Work as an escalation point of contact to decide product and policy issues within the company and externally
  • Partner with government and non-governmental organizations on issues as varied as privacy, cyber security, election integrity, misinformation and other relevant technology-related public policy matters
  • Provide guidance to Product and Services teams on public policy matters that would aid in the development of our systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in law/public policy/political science
  • A deep passion for social media, policy work and bringing the next billion online
  • Keen understanding of technology-related policy issues such as privacy, data security, election integrity and politics
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • 8+ years of experience in government relations and advocacy work and/or working in a think tank on related matters and/or experience having worked on these issues from a legal or media perspective

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in law or related field preferred
  • Deep understanding of public policy specifically in areas including internet governance, privacy, safety and security
